It feels slightly cooler today, cool enough to lift me out of my stupor of the last few days and inspire us to get out for a short walk whilst it was overcast with a softly cool breeze. Trentham as usual I'm afraid as we didn't want to travel far and it's just down the road.
After the wildflowers shown in my last post I was looking at the more formal flowers in the small show gardens this time.
First the Reedmace or bulrush by the lake

Now back home, I have laundry drying outside and Paul is mowing some of the grass which had grown quite high in places.
Yesterday, early morning we did manage to make a Summer Pudding. Strawberries, Raspberries, Cherries and Blackberries.
We ate a portion this evening with a scoop of ice cream. It was cool and delicious.
It's probably going to get hot again this week but I've really enjoyed the cooler air today and the short respite from the heat. We really do need some rain.
The breeze today has been wonderful and so appreciated. I'm sure you enjoyed some time at one of your favourite places to walk. The plants are looking so good and very architectural in your photos today.

Thank you Beverley, it was lovely and cool under the trees. I loved the colours and textures of the flowers. Back to heat again today, we could definitely do with a downpour or two:)

ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline, the pudding has been a lovely treat, it's lasted us three days. Yes, heat is returning, we do need some rain though the lawns are yellowing and the flowers are struggling too:)

ReplyDeleteThank you Granny Sue, the pudding is no cook. Line a pudding bowl with sliced bread cut to size. I use an old recipe so it's in pounds and ounces. One and a half pound of washed fruit, I do chop the strawberries in half. Place in a pan with four ounces of sugar, bring to the boil until sugar has melted, then simmer for four or five minutes. Place the fruit in the lined bowl and save a little juice. Leave overnight in fridge or until the juices have run into the bread. You can place a plate and a weight on top to press it down. We cheat a little and save more juice and dip the pieces of bread into it before placed them around the bowl. It soaks up more easily that way:)
DeleteWonderful! Your Summer Pudding looks delicious, don't drip any on your white blouse though! One good thing about the hot weather is getting the clothes dry, nice and quickly. We do need rain though. 😊
