Spotted in June

A quick 'spotted locally' post for mid June.

The three sculptures above are part of the Staffy trail across Staffordshire this summer.  Left to right - 'Outdoors, Muddy Paws' at the Goods Yard, Stoke.  'Sonney' in Hanley Park and 'Artie' in the churchyard at Stoke Minster.

There are others in Lichfield, Stafford, Tamworth and Uttoxeter.

Inflatable purple ducks have appeared at Trentham gardens. I have no idea why.  As the event tents are all purple I expect it is to do with that.

Lots of lovely flowers in the garden to make up a table posy.  Pinks, Sweet peas, Oxeye daisies, Hardy Geranium and Pink Valerian.

A tailless squirrel at Westport Lake.  There are one or two like this here and have been for a year or so.They seem perfectly healthy so I think they must have been born tail free.

A Macaque monkey enjoying an apple at the Monkey Forest, Trentham Estate.

It was easy to spot this years new-borns in their family groups.

Twinkletoes the lucky cat at the RAF Museum, Cosford. In June 1919 navigator Arthur Brown and pilot John Alcock made the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic ocean.  Twinkletoes took the journey with them tucked into Arthur Brown's pocket.  Arthur and John had both served in the Royal Flying Corps during the First World War.

  1. I am not sure that Twinkletoes likes being in a display case. He looks like he would much sooner be off on more adventures!
What brave men Alcock and Brown were. The mind boggles at what they achieved.

    1. Thank you Tracey. He does doesn't he? I wonder what further adventures he had before ending up in the museum? Someone must have cared for him. The airmen were very brave both during WWI and after in those small, early planes. Such an adventurous spirit:)

  2. What a lovely vase of flowers from your garden and I love the idea of the Staffordshire "Staffy" Trail. We had a couple of similar trails years ago in Birmingham - one for Big Hoot Owls and the other had bear sculptures. The tail-less squirrel is unusual and I don't think I have ever seen one! You would think he would find it hard to balance as he clambers up and down trees! Have a good weekend Rosie.

    1. Thank you Caroline. There are some pretty flowers at the moment, the recent weather has sent them into bloom mode, it's done for the strawberries though, I'm afraid. We may see the Staffys at Uttoxeter and Lichfield but we very rarely go to Stafford or Tamworth. I'm not sure how long the trail is going to be around. The squirrel seems to be okay running up and down the trees and it has been around for a while now. Hope you too have a good weekend, stay cool:)

  3. Aren't the purple ducks fun, they should put them in the lake! I thought those macaques were in your garden for a minute, lovely to see the little ones doing well. What a glorious garden posy, such a treat with all their pretty coordinating colours. 😊.

    1. Thank you CK. Ha, yes, I expect the neighbours would complain about that - the macaques, not the ducks:)

  4. We haven’t had a trail for a while. The last one was tortoises. Yours looks like great fun. B x

    1. Thank you B. There seem to have been quite a few trails around here recently, this one is across the whole county but ends quite soon I think:)

  5. It is lovely to see Twinkletoes and to know the part he played with those brave men.
I always enjoy seeing those sculpture trails . They are always so bright and colourful. This one with the "Staffordshire Staffy" is lovely.
The macaque with the apple looks as though he is in thoughtful contemplation. I hope the youngsters leave him in peace.

    1. Thank you Beverley. The macaque with the apple looked so pleased to have found it and took himself off to a quiet place to eat it. I'd love to see all the Staffys but I don't think we'll get to see them all as the trail finishes soon:)

  6. Your garden posy is so pretty. I hope your flowers are not suffering too much with the intense heat you've been experiencing.
    Those sculpture trails are fun!

    1. Thank you Lorrie, some of the flowers have suffered others are fine, they have been watered regularly but it depends where they are in the garden, those in the shade do better at the moment:)
