We spent a lovely day in Shrewsbury on Tuesday. It's not too far from here probably about fifty minutes drive to the park and ride at Harlescott and then a ten minute bus ride into the centre.
It's a place I'm quite familiar with. I often used to get the bus there and back for shopping when we lived near Market Drayton. I also used to meet a friend at the station and we would travel on the train to Llandrindod Wells (Llandod as it was known locally) to visit a retired work colleague.
I love the old streets, quaint alleyways and old buildings. The names of the streets like Wyle Cop and Dogpole that conjure up times gone by. We'd decided we wanted to visit the Museum to see how it had changed since our last visit and also walk along the riverside to The Dingle, Percy Thrower's garden.

Lovely photos Rosie. I've only visited Shrewsbury once in recent years although we used to go to the Dingle when I was little. It looks from your post as though it is worth me revisiting as there seems a lot to see. I love the Heron sculpture. It looks as though you had a great day out :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Caroline, it was a lovely day out. I wish I could have seen more but there is only so much you can pack into a day. It was our wedding anniversary so we ended up for tea and cake at the Dorothy Clive gardens on the way home. Have a lovely weekend:)
DeleteWe skirted Shrewsbury today but didn’t visit. Last time a good few years ago we had to walk on boards to avoid the floods. I remember the cadfael exhibition. A lovely city. Your photos show it well. Looks like you had a busy time. B x
ReplyDeleteThank you B, yes, I can remember visiting once when some of the car parks near the river were under water. Always think of the Cadfael books when we visit Shrewsbury. I hope you had a good journey home:)
DeleteWhat an amazing place. Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda, glad you enjoyed the photos:)
DeleteI really enjoyed visiting the beautiful town of Shrewsbury in your post after visiting just once many years go. I live all the pretty buildings, churches, river and the Dingle. I think it was originally set up by a previous Gardners World Presenter
ReplyDeleteThank you CK, sorry you are having problems commenting. I must look up the Gardener's World presenter previous to Percy Thrower, it did say Percy was responsible for developing the lake in the Dingle when he was Park's Superintendent there, also for starting the Flower Show. There was a bust of him and I did take a photo but it didn't turn out very well:)
DeleteI'm having a problem leaving a comment today so I'll leave it at that! 😊
ReplyDeleteWonderful Pictures, thank you for them, many years ago I visited Shrewsbury for English course, picturesque place, greetings from Warsaw
ReplyDeleteThank you for leaving a comment. I'm glad that you enjoyed the photos and that they brought back memories of your visit:)
DeleteThis is a wonderful glimpse of Shrewsbury, a town I know only through reading the Brother Caedfel stories. I would very much enjoy wandering through all the places you've shown us. How green the landscape by the river is just now. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lorrie, we didn't get down as far as the Abbey this time although we have visited before. There used to be a 'World of Cadfael' tourist attraction nearby years ago which later became the headquarters of the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, don't know what is there now. I loved the Cadfaei books and also the television series. It was very green and lush down by the riverside:)
